About Us
About
Ohana First Foundation was inspired by the Polynesian word meaning family. At its core, Ohana focuses on the importance of a strong family unit and solid structural foundation for the family to remain viable and sustainable for many years to come.
Ohana is more than just one’s immediate family. It encompasses all individuals of a community crossing paths to create a spiritual and familial bond for a common purpose or outcome. It is Ohana’s belief and vision that to create a strong sustainable foundation it is essential to provide affordable, safe, and energy efficient housing along with critical family support services through coordination with the respective agencies.
Ohana provides housing that is both economical and energy efficient. Programs including long-term, transitional, or temporary housing that serves a variety of groups such as veterans, the elderly, and the homeless. Additionally, other challenged groups such as men and women in recovery from substance use disorders, the justice-involved who were recently incarcerate and now released individuals, victims of domestic violence, foster adults aging out of care, and even people on social security who desire to live in the community are helped by Ohana’s shared housing. By placing individuals in a family like environment, our non-profit can build a family in its house.
Ohana also facilitates housing for low to moderate income families and individuals needing a pathway to home ownership. This housing is impactful and meaningful to the community by lessening neighborhood tensions, reducing prejudicial discrimination, and combating community deterioration. Additionally, Ohana’s affordable housing provides relief for the poor and distressed, provides support for veterans, and other socially and economically challenged groups.
Thus, Ohana’s housing programs can be educational in nature by providing ongoing exposure to the responsibility of maintaining a home and transitioning to independent home ownership.
Ohana also helps serve as a resource network ensuring access to health and wellness experts who provide their donated healthcare services to military veterans, the elderly, and various other individual residents of Ohana Homes.
Clearly, Ohana is a “socialpreneur” and invests to make a difference in its community.
